37 Grad - Rainbowfamilies

Same-sex couples want children and are having them. Arround 12.000 so-called rainbow-families currently live in Germany. “Families in which at least one parent is a same-sex lover or is transsexual/transgender”, says the German Lesbian and Gay Association. Marriage for all has been in force since 2017. But regardless of whether the child is born through an anonymous sperm donation or with the help of a third person: the only way to legally recognize both parents has so far been the time-consuming  process of adoption. In addition to legal hurdles for the non-biological parent, rainbow parents still have to face outdated views every day – such as those that they are not a “real family”. We accompany two rainbow families in their everyday lives.
