NIcaragua - Water and Volcanoes

From active rocky volcanoes to lush green mangrove forests and colorful orchids, Nicaragua is the most diverse and largest country in Central America. With an area about the size of Greece, it is the center of the narrow continental bridge between North and South America. Arte Discovery delves into the awe-inspiring landscape of this small state, featuring a journey to crystal clear lagoons, mysterious islands in the middle of Lake Nicaragua, and the bubbling depths of volcanoes. Nicaragua's higher mountain peaks are isolated ecosystems and are home to many endangered species such as green budgerigars, pumas and ocelots.  But the streams, rivers and coastline reveal more untold natural paradises and are home to unique flora and fauna: iguanas, crocodiles and caimans. The spectators: inside discover the spectacular Masaya volcano. They are present when tapirs are released into the jungle and learn why a biosphere reserve in Lake Nicaragua has proclaimed their own "Little Five". In addition to the recent Cerro Negro volcano, learn about a canyon that is representative of a new opportunity for the country and its people. Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in the world and at the same time one of the richest because of its natural treasures. 700 kilometers of pure landscape, fabulous lakes and mysterious volcanoes.
