A Future without You

When someone we are close to decides to exit suddenly from our shared lives, without saying goodbye, without asking for help, those left behind experience not just sorrow, but also rage and despair. We feel powerless, and we ask ourselves how we might have prevented such a tragic loss. Suicide profoundly alters the lives of those left behind. Everyone who has been touched by it suffers aftereffects for many years, and it has an impact on their continuing lives.

In this film, we follow two women who lost a loved one to a premature death. This time really heal all wounds? What is needed to reemerge into hopefulness after pain, sadness, and anger? How is it possible to come to terms with the “empty place at the dinner table”? For those impacted, time is reckoned according to a new calendar: Life before and after a suicide.
